The Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will start a second phase of street and sidewalk improvements on Airport Way South on Monday, August 9. During this phase, the street will be reconstructed from curb to curb from South Royal Brougham Way to South Dearborn Street.
For the first couple of weeks the contractor will work between South Plummer Street and South Royal Brougham Way. Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction during the weekday. Loading and parking restrictions will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week while the necessary work is completed. There will be short-term driveway restrictions and some pedestrian detours. Access to all businesses will be maintained.
(Also, weekend work is planned for August 13 to15 — there will be a separate announcement.)
Earlier this summer, SDOT concluded the first phase of improvements to Airport Way South, from South Spokane Street to South Royal Brougham Way. This work included new asphalt pavement, new concrete in areas that are heavily used by transit, upgraded curb ramps and minor drainage improvements.
