Update: June 15, 2010: BNSF has delayed this project for one week.
Previous announcement:
The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Company (BNSF) will install additional railroad crossing gates on Vine Street and on Wall Street, both at Alaskan Way. To accommodate this work, one street at a time will be closed at Alaskan Way to all vehicle, pedestrian and bicycle traffic:
Wall Street will be closed from Monday, June 14th to Wednesday, June 16th from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Vine Street will be closed from Wednesday June 16 to Friday, June 18, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Seattle Department of Transportation contracted with BNSF for this work to meet federal requirements for retaining the Waterfront “Quiet Zone” in which the use of train horns is limited to emergencies only. The whistle ban applies to the rail crossings at Broad, Clay, Vine and Wall streets.
