SDOT’s paving contractor will work around the clock this weekend on Virginia Street making roadway and transit improvements in and around the intersections with Second and Third avenues.
Virginia will be restricted to one lane from First to Third avenues from 7 p.m. Friday, June 4 to 4 a.m. Monday, June 7.
From Friday night to early Sunday, Second Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Lenora to Stewart streets. (Construction activity will leave Second Avenue in time for the Komen Race for the Cure on Sunday morning.) Detour signs will be posted for southbound vehicles directing them to take a right on Lenora then a left onto First Avenue then a left onto Pike Street and right back onto Second Avenue.
Third Avenue will be closed from Lenora to Virginia streets to northbound traffic, while one lane remains open for southbound traffic, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday June 5. Detour signs will be posted for northbound vehicles directing them to take a right on Virginia Street, then a left onto Fourth Avenue, then a left onto Lenora Street, back to Third Avenue.
Police officers will be on site to keep traffic moving. Pedestrian access to all businesses and residences will be maintained. Local access for vehicles will be maintained.
This project is funded by the Bridging the Gap transportation initiative approved by Seattle voters in November 2006.
