Street improvements are coming to Columbian Way South, between 15th Avenue South and Beacon Avenue South, designed to improve access and safety for motor vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles. Construction will begin Wednesday, May 19, starting with sidewalk replacement on the north side of Columbian Way between Beacon Avenue South and the VA Hospital.
One traffic lane in each direction will be maintained at all times. On-street parking will be restricted.
When the project is finished, Columbian Way will have one travel lane in each direction with a new center left turn lane. The project also includes new curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, upgraded drainage, street trees, and bike lanes.
The contractor expects to complete the project in September.
The work is funded in part by the Bridging the Gap transportation initiative approved by Seattle voters.
