SDOT’s paving contractor will close two intersections on Fourth Avenue this weekend to work when traffic is lighter than on weekdays. One location was announced earlier today—a partial closure of the intersection with James Street. The second location is the intersection with Main Street. Drivers should expect congestion and are advised to allow extra time for their trips.
The intersection of Main Street and Fourth Avenue will be closed from 7 p.m. on Friday, December 4 until early in the morning of Monday, December 7. Eastbound traffic on Main Street will be detoured at Fourth. Fourth Avenue will be restricted to two lanes in this area.
James Street will be closed at the west side of the intersection with Fourth Avenue from 6 p.m. Friday, December 4 until late Sunday evening, December 6. Traffic headed eastbound on James Street will be required to detour at Third Avenue. Westbound traffic on James Street will have to turn on Fourth Avenue. Traffic on Fourth Avenue will not be able to turn west on James Street. While Fourth Avenue will remain open to traffic, some lanes on Fourth may be closed.
SDOT is working to minimize traffic impacts and appreciates the patience of drivers while essential work is performed on this highly-traveled downtown street.
