Friday, October 23, at 7 p.m., the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) will block off the east side of the Fourth Avenue at James Street. The closure will remain in effect until 7 a.m. Monday, October 26, while crews remove and replace concrete panels in the eastern half of the intersection.
During the closure, traffic east of Fourth Avenue heading westbound on James Street will be detoured south on Fifth Avenue to Jefferson Street, then west on Jefferson and back to Fourth Avenue. Motorists eastbound on James Street will be sent north on Fourth Avenue to Cherry Street and then east to Fifth Avenue. James Street will remain open to local access only between Fourth and Fifth avenues, but no through traffic will be allowed. Also access to the City Hall parking garage will be maintained.
Although the Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed for its semi-annual maintenance and inspection this weekend as well, SDOT does not anticipate any significant adverse impacts from these two events occurring simultaneously.
