The closure planned for Stewart Street between Third and Fourth avenues from July 31 to August 3 has been canceled due to high temperatures. The closure is now planned for the following weekend.
Stewart Street continues to be restricted to one lane for all traffic between Westlake and Second avenues and is open for buses only from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. This configuration will remain in effect through late August while SDOT’s contractor continues work on paving.
Stewart Street is a main entry point into downtown from southbound I-5. Drivers of vehicles other than buses who normally use the Stewart Street exit may want to take exits at Mercer, Union or James streets during this traffic revision.

SDOT is coordinating the various downtown construction projects and working with its paving contractors to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible. The downtown paving program will substantially improve the heavily traveled streets in this area for everyone.
