Stewart Street will be restricted to one lane for all traffic between Westlake and Second avenues starting Monday, July 27, and will be open for buses only from 3 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. This configuration will remain in effect through late August while SDOT’s contractor continues work on paving.
Also, Stewart Street will be closed to all motor vehicles between Third and Fourth avenues from 7 p.m. on Friday, July 31, to 4 a.m. on Monday, August 3, while the contractor paves this block of Stewart.
Stewart Street is a main entry point into downtown from southbound I-5. Drivers of vehicles other than buses who normally use the Stewart Street exit may want to take exits at Mercer, Union or James streets during this traffic revision.
SDOT is working with the contractor to minimize traffic impacts as much as possible and appreciates the patience of travelers during this summer’s critical downtown paving projects. The result will ultimately make getting around on these heavily traveled streets better for all users—motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.
