Thee Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) and its contractors are making improvements to several arterials in Downtown Seattle. Expect lane closures and parking restrictions within and adjacent to construction work zones. Here are some highlights on the status of projects and construction activities scheduled from now through the end of June 2009 (Please note that some of the work is weather dependent and the schedule may be adjusted as the projects move forward):
**Fourth Avenue – Olive Way to Denny Way
Final paving has been completed. The project work which began the week of March 23, will be substantially complete by the end of this week. Work on this street will be completed approximately one month ahead of schedule.
**Stewart Street – Eastlake Avenue E to First Avenue
The contractor started work on this street the week of April 13. Work has begun on the second phase of this project between Boren Avenue and Westlake Avenue with crews reconstructing the north side of the roadway to be used as future bus lanes. Work will take place between 9th Avenue and 6th Avenue over next two weeks. The contractor will work on sidewalks, curb ramps, and concrete roadway replacement.
**Pike Street – First Avenue to Second Avenue
The contractor started work on this street May 18, and completely rebuilt the one block area between First Avenue and Second Avenue in 5 days. There is no work remaining.
**Second Avenue – Denny Way to Pike Street
