SEATTLE – This week, Seattle City Light (SCL) is beginning electrical work necessary for the construction of the East Marginal Way S Grade Separation Project just south of South Spokane Street. Before the roadway construction can start, SCL will move several electrical feeder lines away from the project area over the next several months. Motorists may encounter intermittent traffic controls and experience some additional truck traffic due to equipment staging and pole drilling.
Construction of the roadway structure is scheduled to begin in late summer and will be completed by late 2011. When completed, the overpass will route trucks and general vehicle traffic up and over the railroad tracks just south of the Spokane Street corridor. The project will eliminate traffic delays on East Marginal Way S and on Duwamish Avenue S caused by trains crossing at grade level.
