SDOT advises travelers to be aware of the following events happening around the city this week that will affect area traffic. The Mariners play tonight at Safeco Field. The DOTA 2 gaming championships happen all week at Key Arena through Saturday. Gun N’ Roses plays CenturyLink Field on Friday night. The first Seattle Summer Parkways event is in Rainier Valley on Saturday. The Sounders FC play at CenturyLink Field on Sunday afternoon.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10:
Seattle Mariners vs. Tigers, Wednesday, August 10 at 7:10 p.m. at Safeco Field. About 28,000 people are expected to attend.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10 – SATURDAY, AUGUST 13:
International DOTA 2 Championships: The world’s top gaming teams battle at the Key Arena. Event hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Saturday. About 11,000 people expected to attend each day.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 12:
Guns N’ Roses: The “Not in This Lifetime Tour” with special guests Alice in Chains and the Pink Slips at CenturyLink Field. The show starts at 6:30 p.m. About 50,000 people are expected to attend.
South Lake Union Block Party: Local bands, Best Burger contest, art competition and more at the Discovery Center Park at Denny Park and 9th Avenue N. Event goes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. John St between Westlake and 9th avenues, and 9th Avenue between Denny and Thomas streets will be closed from 8 p.m. on Thursday until 1 a.m. Saturday. About 3,000 people are expected to attend.
Sunset Supper at Pike Place Market: 21st annual celebration of Seattle’s Pike Place Market featuring restaurants, wineries, breweries and live music. Event from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. on the Pike Place cobblestones and inside the Market Arcade. About 1,400 people are expected to attend.
SATURDAY, AUGUST 13:
Seattle Summer Parkways – Rainier Valley: The first Summer Parkways of 2016 features music, activities and food booths on car free streets starting at 12:30 p.m. The Parkways route starts on S Findlay St, winds south on 42nd Ave S to S Juneau St and down 44th Ave S all the way to Othello Park. 44th Ave S will be closed from S Orcas S to S Othello St from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Summer Parkways Event is coordinating with the Rainier Valley Heritage Festival and the Big Day of Play. About 3,000 people are expected to attend.
Rainier Valley Heritage Festival and Parade: Family-friendly festival celebrating summer on Rainier Ave S between S Alaska St and S Findlay St from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at Rainier Ave S and S Brandon St and heads north on Rainier Ave S to S Alaska St by 12:30 p.m. Rainier Ave S will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from S Orcas St and S Alaska St. The Rainier Valley Heritage Festival is coordinated with Seattle Summer Parkways and the Big Day of Play. About 2,500 people expected to attend.
Magnolia Village Car Show: The annual car show runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. W McGraw St will be closed starting at 8 a.m. between 32nd and 34th avenues. About 800 people are expected to attend.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 14:
Lake Union 10K: The annual walk/run around Lake Union on the Cheshiahud Loop Trail. The race starts and finishes in South Lake Union Park, running clockwise around the lake. The race starts at 7:30 a.m. Fairview Ave E and two northbound lanes of Westlake Ave N will be closed until 10 a.m. About 1,250 are expected to participate. The Fremont Bridge will remain open to vehicle traffic and closed to marine traffic for the run from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The right northbound lane of the bridge and the east walkway will be used for the run. The public will use the east walkway.
Obliteride: Bike riders will cycle from 10 to 150 miles while raising funds for cancer research. Cyclists leave the Fred Hutch campus at 10:30 a.m. and ride around Lake Union. One lane on Eastlake Avenue E and one northbound lane on Westlake Avenue N will be closed to traffic until 12 p.m. About 4,900 people are expected to attend. The Fremont Bridge will remain open to vehicle traffic and closed to marine traffic for the ride from 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The right northbound lane of the bridge and the east walkway will be used for the run. The public will use the east walkway.
Seattle Sounders vs. Real Salt Lake, Sunday, August 14th at 4 p.m. at CenturyLink Field. About 45,000 people are expected to attend.
