Weekend traffic: Let’s play ball, Aug. 8-10

Baseball is the word for this week, and soccer, too—they are the events expected to attract the most weekend traffic. Several community festivals and races are also scheduled for this weekend.

The Mariners are playing every day this week at Safeco Field, with evening games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The Mariner’s game on Sunday is at 1 p.m., and the Sounders will be playing Sunday evening at CenturyLink Field.

For those of us who didn’t get enough of festivals during Seafair, a number of community events this weekend will provide opportunities for more fun. On Friday, there is the Seattle Food Festival on Capitol Hill, the South Lake Union Block Party, and the Belltown Artwalk. On Saturday, PhinneyWood Summer Streets will partner with the Street Soccer Tournament, there will be a car show in Magnolia, and the Seattle Street Food Festival will continue on Capitol Hill. Sunday morning the Lake Union 10K (running and walking race) will spin around Lake Union, and the Obliteride (bike race) will tour streets between Magnuson Park and the University Bridge.

The weather forecast is for fair weather this weekend, so it’s another great time for biking or walking to your destination, and also for working off some of the goodies you are likely to consume at the events. Public transit is also a great option— in addition to creating good karma, you can avoid the stress of driving and parking.
