Many events to make the Memorial Day weekend memorable

The long Memorial Day weekend gets an early start tomorrow with the 43rd annual four-day Northwest Folklife Festival at the Seattle Center. Boasting more than 7,000 performers, the festival also features participatory dances, workshops, crafts, food and more. Meanwhile, the Mariners are in town taking on the Houston Astros and then the Los Angeles Angels. Also on Saturday, an expected 1,000 protestors will take part in a March Against Monsanto which will culminate at the Gates Foundation adjacent to the Seattle Center on Fifth Avenue and will likely add to traffic congestion in the area. On Sunday morning, 800 runners will race around Lake Union, and in the afternoon in the midst of the Folklife celebrations on the Center grounds, the Seattle Reign will play the Western NY Flash at the Memorial Stadium. For more details, please see the following schedule.

The Seattle Department of Transportation reminds event-goers to consider reducing their carbon footprint by parking the car at home and trying one of the many alternate forms of transportation available – Metro Transit, the Sounder, Link light rail, West Seattle Water Taxi, the Seattle Streetcar, the monorail, carpool, bicycle, or even walk – if feasible.
