Weekend events range from solemn to joyous


This weekend features a wide range of events from the celebration parade to commemorate the birth of Buddha  to the 5k Color Run promoting happiness with runners of all ages donning white cloths that will be plastered in color by the finish line. For details of these and many other events and construction reminders, please see the following schedule.

Friday, May 9
Seattle Mariners  vs. Kansas City Royals:  7:10 p.m.
Safeco Field
18,000 + attending
Expect congestion surrounding the stadium and on major roadways and freeways approaching the SODO area.

Saturday, May 10
Celebration Birth of Buddha Parade:  9 a.m.
Hing Hay Park – assembly area
900 participants
Parade route: Starts at Hing Hay Park at Maynard Avenue S and S King Street and moves north on Maynard to S Jackson Street; and then east on S Jackson Street to the Red Apple Supermarket parking lot at 23rd Avenue S.  Seattle Police will escort.
Expect congestion and slowing on streets surrounding area as parade moves along.

Maritime Festival:  11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Pier 66 and Bell Harbor Marina
2,500 expected throughout the day

Cannabis Freedom March:
 1 p.m.
Volunteer Park to Westlake Park;
500 participants
March start at Volunteer Park at 12th Avenue and E Prospect Street; west on Prospect to Tenth Avenue E; south on Tenth to E Broadway; south on Broadway to E Olive Way; west on Olive to Melrose Ave; south on Melrose to Pine St; west on Pine Fourth Avenue and  into Westlake Park.  Seattle Police will escort.
Expect a rolling slowdown as the march moves from Volunteer Park on Capitol Hill to Westlake Park in Downtown Seattle.

Rat City Rollergirls Bout #5:  5:30 – 8:30 pm.
Key Arena, Seattle Center
5,000 attending
Expect congestion on the west side of the Center. (Note Mercer construction at end of schedule)

Tales of Hoffman Seattle Opera Performance:  7:30 – 11 p.m.
McCaw Hall, Seattle Center

Expect congestion primarily on Mercer Street.


Sunday May 11
The Color Run:  8 a.m.
Seattle Center – start and finish line
10,500 participants
5K run starts at Fourth Avenue N  and Mercer Street; heads east on Mercer to Fifth Avenue N; south on Fifth to Cedar Street; west on Cedar to Second Avenue;  south on Second to Seneca Street; makes a  u-turn at Seneca and then goes north on Second Avenue back to the Seattle Center.

Key Weekend Construction Notes
Friday – /Sunday, May 9 – 12: Westbound lanes on the SR520 floating bridge closed Friday night to Monday morning.

Saturday, May 10: Western Avenue closed between Wall and Vine streets during tower crane erection.

Saturday, May 10: Northbound Queen Anne Avenue N closed at Roy Street on Saturday during roadway paving.

Sunday, May 11: Denny Way fully closed between Fourth Avenue N and Fifth Avenue N  Sunday while crews dismantle a tower crane.
