Beginning Tuesday, Jan. 8 the south leg of the intersection of South Jackson Street and Second Avenue South in the Pioneer Square neighborhood will be closed to traffic to facilitate construction of the First Hill Streetcar. The closure will be in place 24 hours per day and is expected to reopen the evening of Jan. 18. Jackson Street will be open to east- and westbound traffic but southbound turns to Second Avenue will not be permitted. A detour will be posted utilizing Jackson Street, Occidental Avenue and King Street.
Local access, pedestrian access, and access to businesses will be maintained during this work.
The City of Seattle is developing the First Hill Streetcar in partnership with Sound Transit, with funding provided through the 2008 voter approved Sound Transit 2 (ST2) transit expansion plan. Completion is planned for spring 2014.
