Music, Merriment & More This Weekend

Tomorrow night carolers will sing their hearts out in the 26th Annual Great Figgy Pudding Competition taking place between 8 and 9 p.m. on Westlake Central Plaza and on surrounding streets.  At least 9,000 people are expected to be milling around taking in the sounds and sights of the event.

Saturday evening, thousands of families, friends and neighbors will turn out for the festive Seattle tradition of the Pathway of Lights to enjoy the glow of the candles on the 2.8 mile path around the lake. At four points along the way, musicians perform and warm drinks and treats are served.  There will be donation bins at these sites for nonperishable food items for local food banks. Also on Saturday night, Benson Henderson will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) World Lightweight title before a crowd of some 13,400 at the Key Arena.

The Arthritis Foundation’s Annual Jingle Bell Run/Walk anticipates over 12,000 participants running and walking on downtown streets and the I-5 Express Lanes on Sunday morning. The Express Lanes will be open for motorists by 10:15 a.m. in order for traffic to normalize before the crush of 67,000 Seahawk fans begin arriving for the 1:25 p.m. game against the Cardinals.

Event goers and holiday shoppers are reminded by the Seattle Department of Transportation to consider reducing their carbon footprint and promoting a greener environment by traveling via one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – bus, carpool, Metro Transit, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, bicycle or even walking, if feasible.
