Events coming up with potential traffic impacts
Tonight’s 7:30 p.m. Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert at the Key Arena could produce heavier traffic than usual between the I- 5 Mercer off-ramp and the Seattle Center during the latter part of the afternoon commute. On Sunday morning, some 2,000 participants are expected to show up for the Green Lake Gobble, a Thanksgiving – themed 5k and 10k run and walk and Kids’ Dash. The post-race celebration includes the Mashed Potato Munch Off competitive eating contest. The event supports Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission with cash donations and an onsite canned food drive. Sunday evening at 6 p.m. 38,000 avid Seattle Sounder fans are expected to show up for the Conference Play-off match against the LA Galaxy at CenturyLink Field.
The Seattle Department of Transportation suggests event attendees consider reducing their impact on the environment by leaving the car at home and traveling via one of the many alternate modes of transportation available – Metro Transit, the West Seattle Water Taxi, the Sounder commuter train, Link light rail, car pool, bicycle or even walking, if feasible.
