S Dearborn Street Paving Starts Monday, June 7
A contractor working for the Seattle Department of Transportation will begin repaving South Dearborn Street, from Fifth to Tenth avenues, on Monday, June 7. At least one lane will remain open in each direction at all times. If weather allows, the contractor expects to complete the work by the end of July.
From June 7 to 10 the contractor plans to work during the night, grinding off the old surface of the street. Then the contractor will repair the base of the street, and install traffic sensors, traffic island and street median. From June 29 to July 11 the contractor plans to again work at night, repaving the street with asphalt, applying pavement markings and installing signs.
The project will include improvements for bicycles: bike-friendly drainage grates, bike-sensitive traffic detectors at signals, and where possible, wider bike lanes.
